Description

An amazing mixture of European improvised music with American jazz and African and Spanish music.

Notes

Founded in 1982, the Paul van Kemenade Quintet from the Netherlands blends elements from the European improvised with American jazz, African- and Spanish music. Blending the classical with infuences from pop music making all of this into a cocktail in its own right.
The quintet plays the compositions of all members of the band and of all guest-musicians but they mainly play work by Van Kemenade. The quintet had their 25-year anniversary in 2007.

Since 1994 the quintet has frequently cooperated with the South African musicians Feya Faku and Louis Mhlanga, since 1998 with Sydney Mnisi and since 2003 with Sonti Mndebele and Bheki Khoza. Since 2002 the quintet plays reguarly with the West African trio 'Les Frères Guissé' from Senegal. Also projects and guest-appearances with individual (inter)national musicians like trumpetplayers Rik Mol and Eric Vloeimans, vocalists David Linx and Jeroen Zijlstra, tenorplayer David Murray, projects with vocal groups, with strings and many more. Schoolconcerts is also one of the activities of the quintet.
