Before building a following in the Portland music scene, Cement Season frontman Ian Powell walked the continent with American Indians, shook off drug addiction in jail, and spontaneously disappeared to Alaska. He's a man of extremes, so it's no surprise that his band's music could aptly be called space grunge. With experienced multi-instrumentalist Shawn Zapata, imposing bassist Andy Grover, and hard-hitting young drummer Carl LaRue, this four piece is like a meteor shower in drop A tuning, at once intricate and heavy.
“I like to think we're a continuation of grunge,” Powell says as Cement Season prepares for its sophomore release. “We sound like where the genre might have gone if it hadn't crashed and burned.”
