Notes
Dreaming Of Things has been in the works for a while. It's a big step forward in my songwriting skills from anything I've ever done and really made me step up my arrangement and production skills. Even the songs that are a little older, that I've been playing for a while, have been honed.. refined. Admittedly, there are a lot of relationship songs on the CD. I used to say I didn't want to write those. Funny how things work out. But then again, I guess that kind of thing touches us all. And what better reason to write about it?
I certainly have my influences when I write. I've learned that I can't copy them (nor would I want to). But the influence is there. Poor Boy and The Princess was written in about an hour. It's one of the easiest things I've ever written. Thanks to Paul McCartney for that. Still Think About You was a little outside of anything I had written before. Nothing radical. But it was a little bit of a flex for me. That energy is the Elvis Costello influence on me. (He is a songwriter's super hero. If I can ever write half as good.. or as much, I'll have arrived.). I mean, the list goes on. You can probably hear them in there. But, at the end of the day, this is me.
You can tell it's pretty good music when you find yourself wanting to hear your own work. After all, you've listened to it hundreds of times, right? But I keep going back to this CD. I really enjoy it. I hope you do too.
