20th Century Guitar Magazine (April 2005) calls Charlie Read "A master of the rock, jazz, and blues instrumental guitar sound" and his CDs have gained a worldwide audience. Moving effortlessly from melodic rock instrumentals a la Joe Satriani or Phil Keaggy, to Beatles-inspired vocals with uplifting and contemplative lyrics, Charlie has recorded four CDs, including his debut "read between the lines" from 2004. One reviewer writes, "In the hands of Charlie (the guitar) becomes like a tool in the hands of a master craftsman who has poured his heart out into his work." Another says, ""JUST GUITAR is an amazing demonstration of how six strings can evoke an array of emotions with their melodies and rhythm" (in reference to Charlie's latest CD release). Drawing from decades of performing, study, songwriting, touring and teaching, this West Virginia musician keeps the surprises coming with each new release. Never content to lapse into mediocrity, Charlie sets his musical standards high and proceeds to - as one song puts it - press toward the mark. Underneath the production, with searing electric guitar solos or gentle acoustic fingerstyle ballads, there is an ever-present spiritual foundation.
