Description

Original instrumental music, raw at times but very honest, a new voice.

Notes

"A new sound in instrumental music". Exciting and at times very introspective, Sandy Chochinov manages to convey feelings that are straight from the heart. Not a stranger to the blues or the avant-garde Sandy reinvents himself without losing his roots. The music is fresh, honest and vital.

Joining Sandy are Leonard Shaw on Saxes and Flute, Craig Kaleal on the Drums and Rubin Kantorovich on Guitar and Dobro. These musicians contribute to help give the music a unique perspective.

Though the music comes from many influences it comes out sounding very creative and new. This is Sandy's third CD released on CDBaby. I wouldn't change a thing was the first followed by What on earth. Both in there right very original..

Sandy only follows one path and that's the path of doing exactly as he hears it. Music is like breathing for Sandy, a path that's got to be followed.

Walkeem A Leema

Sandy Chochinov has three solo CD's under his belt and 'Walkeem a Leema' is the best yet. Solid grooves and beautiful melodies cover the genres of rock, rhythm and blues and jazz. His music echoes and pays homage to such great talents as Weather Report and Miles Davis in his electric phase and has the song-writing sensibility of well-crafted records like, 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Pink Floyd and the Beatles 'Abbey Road.' There's even a great sample of 'turn of the century modern' in the harmonic structure of the musically adventurous, pastoral piece, 'Dream On'. It sounds like Progressive Rock had an influence here as well. Listening to this disc reminded me of fantastic and talented seventies groups like 'The Mothers of Invention', 'Gentle Giant' and 'Jethro Tull.'

An experienced bass player/composer, Sandy cut his teeth as a live player in the seventies and eighties and as a member of a rhythm section, he knows what feels right and what doesn't. This record feels
right!

Good luck buddy. You deserve a fucking break already! I truly love the disc. (This isn't a part of the write up...ha.)

Sandy's elegance and individuality as a musician were the first things to strike me when I had the privilege of playing with him a few years ago. With "walkeem a leema" Sandy pursues a harder edged sound infused with
dissonance and elegance creating once again, as in his previous releases, small and completely detailed worlds in which the listener can easily lose him or herself. His melodic gift and absolute mastery of detail are the hallmarks of a consummate craftsman.

Whether your taste is mainstream or cutting edge,
contemporary or the blues, you can take your choice
Sandy's Walkeem a leema CD has it all. The recording
shows Sandy to be a subtle and sophisticated
interpreter of jazz, which alone would be enough, but
Sandy reaches for more as he broadens the idea of
jazz. Very reminiscing of Weather Report's "bird land"
Sandy has earned his reputation as a creator of
complex sounds, bursting with energy and emotion.
