Description

An eclectic mix of ethereal, emotive vocals, solid songwriting, and lush arrangements, for lovers of Elbow, Peter Gabriel, Imogen Heap, Feist ...

Notes

"Cheryl's music is like a dream about the ocean.... how scary it can be and how beautiful and timeless." -Lisa Coleman (Wendy and Lisa, Prince)

"Cheryl's voice is like that of Julee Cruise--possibly the most beautiful ethereal voice ever." - Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel, Black Dub, Bob Dylan, Neville Bros.)

"The Ride" is the first release from Cheryl's third project, which was inspired by an intensive round of songwriting. Deciding to take a new approach, she plans to release one to two songs each month throughout the first half of 2013, with the album as a whole becoming available in early summer. "The Ride" was recorded at Bliss's studio in Austin, TX, and features bassist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), guitarist Gerry Leonard (David Bowie, Duncan Sheik, Suzanne Vega, Sinead O'Conner), and drummer Ramy Antoun (Seal, the Black Eyed Peas).

"'The Ride' is about a friend of mine who's been going through a rough patch," Cheryl says. "Sometimes it's easier to speak your mind in a song than face to face ... This song was interesting because the entire melody came as one piece. What I sang into the microphone that first day is what is on the recording. A wonderful producer (Kevin Killen - U2, Donna Lewis) gave me a bit of long-distance guidance as I recorded, and I was able to recruit some of my favorite musicians to play on the track."
