Description
This second CD release by the Banner Mountain Boys features bluegrass music from traditional and contemporary sources, including our own original creations as well as progressive interpretations.
Notes
The BANNER MOUNTAIN BOYS feature bluegrass music from traditional and contemporary American music sources. The four band members include Taylor Carey on guitars and vocals, Ron Gaynor on resophonic guitar and vocals, Rob Shotwell on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Cecelia Shotwell on upright bass.
"Foresthill Bridge", their second CD release, represents a high point for the band due to the inclusion of eight original tunes as well as unique arrangements of traditional bluegrass, country and rock numbers. This collection of songs emphasizes harmony, hot picking, fun, tradition and poignant observations of the range of emotions and experiences in our everyday lives.
Flat-picker Taylor Carey was a founding member of the South Loomis Quickstep as well as other well-known Northern California bands and is recognized for his Doc Watson-style of picking. An accomplished Dobro picker as well as banjoist, Ron Gaynor spent a few years picking with In Cahoots in southern California and several years with On The Loose in Grass Valley. Rob Shotwell favors the traditional Scruggs-style of picking and enjoys throwing in melodic and bluesy sounds as well, and picked the five-string in recent years for On The Loose and Bite The Bullet. Cecelia Shotwell fills out the sound with her wonderful upright bass and is a popular choice for other bands in the region.
The group hails from Nevada County, California and takes its name from Taylor’s residence up on Banner Mountain. Individually and collectively, the members have an extensive performance and recording history. In both live performance and studio recording, the group features the music of traditional and contemporary favorites plus humorous and original material. In May 2011, the Banner Mountain Boys proudly released their first CD, “Fifth Gear”, featuring 14 of their favorite songs.
