Description

With roots in El Dorado, Arkansas, Courtney's original music and lyrics, combined with his vocals, harmonica, and featuring his daughter, Claire, blend the best of Americana, Blues, and Country genres, including a nice, eloquent touch of Jazz.

Notes

My debut album is possible because of hard work from my wife, Debra, my producer, Tommy Byrd, my daughter, Claire Sheppard (a featured artist on this album), my family, and my friends. Thank all of you for your support during the development of this album. This first album has been absolutely worth the effort, and I'm very pleased to share my creation with you.
Enjoy!

** Track Lyrics **

--- Road --- Track 1
I got my truck gassed up, my windows rolled down, my bags packed, trying’ to leave this one horse town. I don’t know when I’m goin’, but when I do, I’m goin’ fast.

Ain’t stoppin’ for nothing but cigarettes and gas. I hear the road calling my name. If I don’t go soon, I’m goin’ insane.

Been working 6 to 7 eight days a week. All I ever do is work, sleep, and eat. My doctor says, “Son, you better slow down, take some time off get outa this town.” I hear the road callin’ my name. If I don’t go soon, I’m going’ insane.

I feel the wind blowing through my hair. I hear a voice telling me. I gotta go somewhere, get up and go anywhere. So I went to my employer, Mr. Ned. Told him jus’ exactly what my doctor said. He just laughed and said, “Forget it, get back out on that line. I’ll let you know when you got vacation time.”

I hear the road calling my name, If I don’t go soon, I’m goin’ insane. I feel the wind blowing through my hair. I hear a voice telling me I gotta go somewhere, get up and go anywhere.

--- Dream of Home --- Track 2
Last night I went to sleep.
I had a little dream, about the place
where I was born and raised.

Running through those piney woods
of south Arkansas
in the Ouachita River on a
summer day.

I dreamed of a simple life,
many years ago.
Friday night football, Saturdays at the picture show.
Sunday morning rise and shine and off to Sunday school,
with my mamma and my daddy and my brothers and my sister too.

I dreamed of a time, and my Arkansas home.
I heard the bob white calling in the night.
The stars in the sky they never seemed so bright.
Happy, never to have never roamed.
Happy in my Arkansas home.

Traveled far and I’ve traveled wide, from sea to shining sea.
Played hard in the fast lane, without love or sympathy.
I searched the whole wide world to find a place to set my spirit free,
I was there all along, but I couldn’t see.

Then I knew it was time,
time to go home;
to hear the bob white calling in the night,
to see the stars in the sky they never seemed so bright.
Happy, never to have roamed.
Happy in my Arkansas home.

To hear the bob white calling in the night.
To see the stars in the sky, they never seemed so bright.
Happy, never to have never roamed.
Happy in my Arkansas home.

Last night, I went to sleep,
had a little dream.

--- When You Least Expect It (featuring Claire Sheppard) --- Track 3
She wasn’t looking for somebody who
could make her life whole, drive out those blues. Then she
stumbled into him, God had a hand in revealing
Himself in His infinite plan.

When you least expect it,
don’t be surprised
when love sneaks up on you. And don’t you
wait and watch and be worried, just know that
God can make life anew.

He was at the end of an old love wondering
if he’d ever rise above
to find a true love to live out his days
in joy and peace and countless other ways.

When you least expect it,
don’t be surprised
when love sneaks up on you. And don’t you
wait and watch and be worried, just know that
God can make life anew.

Life isn’t always what it seems.
Sometimes straight ahead, sometimes in between;
sometimes black and white, but mostly gray.
Trust for an answer at the end of the day.

When you least expect it,
don’t be surprised
when love sneaks up on you. And don’t you
wait and watch and be worried, just know that
God can make life anew.

God can make life anew.
He will answer you.

--- Long Term Relationship --- Track 4
He met her in a wholesale liquor store
they were in the vodka aisle.
She was buying a gallon of Absolute.
He knew right then that he liked her style.
By the time they made it out to the parking lot,
they talked about Lynyrd Skynyrd
they talked about ZZ Top.

They made a date for later on.
He even had the ten 10 magic digits of her cell phone.

He thought right then and there
you know and I know true love is hard to find.
But when it sneaks up on you and gets you in its grip,
you got the basis of a long-term relationship.
You got the basis of a long-term relationship.

Some say love is fickle, some say it is blind,
some say it sucks, and that it’s hard to find,
but when it sneaks up on you and gets you in its grip,
you got the basis of a long-term relationship.
You got the basis of a long-term relationship.

He met her in a wholesale liquor store
in the vodka aisle.

--- I Wish You Well (featuring Claire Sheppard) --- Track 5
I wish you well that your life may go by
as a sea calm and pure.
As a well so deep that it never runs dry,
of the delight for life.

Because there are worlds to see,
and we all must be free
to find our own peace of mind,
and as life unwinds its secrets for you,
be ready its secrets to find.

Now there's been prophets and sages
in this time and times before
who have spoken of tranquility.
Reached through the constant striving for that
part of God we all have within.

And I’m searching in my time for that truth
to become a cipher,
and I'm finding that the peace comes not from perfection,
but from the striving for.

So remember if you seek not,
you will never, ever find.
Your life will be aimless; your spirit lost in time.
So choose any path,
North, South, East, or West.
Become one with the spirit,
and your life will be blessed.

Because there are worlds to see,
and we all must be free
to find our own peace of mind,
and as life unwinds its secrets for you,
be ready its secrets to find.

I wish you well that your life may go by
as a sea calm and pure.

--- Tomas Song --- Track 6
Down the walls
of this new canyon
tumble all of the things
I’d never planned to be about.
A nine-to-five job, requiring close-toed shoes,
and a growing pile of pay stubs showing
what Uncle Sam took out.

I wear a wrist watch now,
to keep my time straight.
I know each second of each minute of each hour.
God, I even know the date.
When it rains, I wear that old hat of yours.
The one you wore night and day, come rain or come shine.

Maybe I’ll grow accustomed
to all this rubble.
Maybe one day
I will reach some solid ground
where I can find the peace and
the solace
that we shared in a long ago, and
much happier time.

Some days, I take the highway
to the city that holds
the dreams of our past,
that seem so far away now.
Dodging cars and trucks
and old thoughts of you,
and the restless empty hours that
make up my day.

Maybe I’ll grow accustomed
to all this rubble.
Maybe one day
I will reach some solid ground
where I can find the peace and
the solace
that we shared in a long ago, and
much happier time.

--- Discombobulated --- Track 7
Baby, tell me how we got into this mess.
I want a little more. You want a little less.
Our love was so easy when we started out,
never had to think about it, never really doubted.

It’s a little bit complicated.
And I’m just a little discombobulated.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I’d turn ‘em on a dime.

Now baby I ain’t asking for that much,
just a little more time and little more touch.
But I know you got something else on your mind
like what gets got gets got in your own time,
done in your own sweet time.

It’s a little bit complicated.
And I’m just a little discombobulated.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I’d turn ‘em on a dime.

So baby, I guess I’ve said it all.
We know where we stand and
we know where we fall.
I guess I’ll bid you adieu and so long.
And I leave with fond memories and this little song.

It’s a little bit complicated.
And I’m just a little discombobulated.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I’d turn ‘em on a dime.

--- Magical Moon (featuring Claire Sheppard) --- Track 8
The hoot owl’s screech
like a knife cuts the ice of this magical,
mystical, full moon night.
And then the whispering wind
invites all who dare
to partake of this magical, full moon air.

As shades of crimson blend into gold,
its secrets untold.
In the breath of a moment,
the autumn moon starts to rise,
spreading its spell over October skies.

The hoot owl’s screech
like a knife cuts the ice of this magical,
mystical, full moon night.
And then the whispering wind
invites all who dare
to partake of this magical, full moon air.

Twilight turns to black, darkness prevails.
As the moon is unveiled, from behind,
a far horizon,
a circle of light casts translucent magic
across the night, and then the

Hoot owl’s screech
like a knife cuts the ice of this magical,
mystical, full moon night.
And then the whispering wind
invites all who dare
to partake of this magical, full moon air.
