Description
A from the heart song written from an experience taking letters from American children to their fathers and Iraqi children. It has been used in the Frontline Faith Project and distributed for free to the troops overseas.
Notes
I am a Nashville based singer songwriter who has written songs for major artists and released a few albums myself. I've played so many different venues for so many different kinds of people but there is one indelible trip that has changed me forever. In 2009 I went on a trip to the Middle East with a group of entertainers and others who have dedicated much of their time to supporting our troops. We took letters from elementary school children and delivered them to troops and read them at shows. We took them to Iraqi children. We took over 6000 pairs of Crocs with us to both the troops and children. We took care packages, just about as much as we could get on our chartered plane dubbed Flagship Freedom from American Airlines. It was the largest civilian airlift since 9/11 and I came home changed. There were so many emotions running through my body when I got home and I didn't know how to process them so that i could share them with others. There are so many songs from a soldier's perspective (please note that I use soldier very loosely to refer to every branch of the military because most people get that...I don't mean to dishonor the marines or seamen, etc. it's just easier to lump them together). Anyway, there was not much from our perspective here at home and certainly not from the voice of those most often affected. So, after months of telling people what I did, I finally realized it was all there. I had heard so many stories, met so many young girls whose fathers were still in the Middle East or would never be coming home and I tried to tell their story.
because most people lump everyone together even though I One of the best moments of my career so far though was going overseas and playing for the troops in the Middle East. It changed me and the way I look at the world and my surroundings. "Soldier's Daughter" is a tribute to every young girl and her father that I've met or heard stories about along the way.
