Description
Listening to Dissonance Rising is like climbing a disenchanted rainbow of hallucinations and massively ambiguous dreamscapes.
Notes
Dissonance Rising is a dark and brooding concept album from the mind of Vangough guitarist Clay Withrow. Its intricate melodies and soulful guitar breakdowns harken back to prog-rock legends such as Gabriel and Gilmour or bands like Dream Theater and Yes. Following in their hallowed footsteps, Withrow shows his ability to produce mammoth epics like "Children of Machines" and "The Grinding Part II"; carefully painting vivid pictures of the world in which we live. Featuring the brutal instrumental "Millions"- always a crowd favorite- Dissonance Rising is nothing short of progressive rock mastery.
The Norman Transcript proclaimed Clay Withrow as "an artist who isn't afraid to make intense, expressive, complex creations" while Metal To Infinity described the album as having a "perfect dose of progressive, melodic and expressive metal." In all cases it is clear that Dissonance Rising pulls from all aspects of its progressive rock forefathers to produce something keenly Clay.
