Description
Traditional Western Christmas carols arranged and performed by flutist Daniel Pardo and guitarist Giampiero Scuderi. Sounds and colors from many Countries are represented in tribute to world music.
Notes
There is so much magic in western-traditional Christmas tunes! I've always wanted to record them and give them to my family and close friends. Finally the opportunity came, and asI started working with Giampiero, the curiosity of arranging the material in a more personal way changed the direction of the project. Harmonic treatment had to be less conventional, rhythm more true to my roots, and irregular meters added to sparkle the foundation of the songs. We were deploying from what it is to be expected on a traditional Christmas recording, but we got closer to my approach to music and life itself, so I brought my other flutes: gaitas de San Jacinto, zampoñas, quenas and quenches, EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) and of course the classical alto, bass and piccolo flutes. They all found their place in the pieces, and the music a new life with their voices: Joy to the Other World is the effect of Christmas in my journey, an homage to my beloved world music.
This work is dedicated to a world that comes together and feels warmer by the grace and divine love of our dear lord, Jesus Christ!
Merry Christmas!
Daniel
Reactions to Joy to the Other World:
"Flutist and writer Daniel Pardo's "Joy to the Other World" is a triumph! I have always enjoyed adventurous rewrites of the Holiday cannon and Daniel's is one of the best I've heard. His use of Spanish and African rhythms and instruments is startling, yet somehow very familiar on a visceral level. I believe it is the perfect juxtaposition of textures for this music and recommend it highly. This is an amazing accomplishment and will now be a fixture in my Christmas music collection."

“Daniel, you are an artistic and melodic risk taker, I applaud your courage and musicality! Please continue your fearless efforts. excellent work! All the best!”
