Description
Driving, melodic and soulful indie pop. A perfect combination of classic and modern sounds, familiar yet unique.
Notes
The aptly titled Back Seat heralds a new sonic direction and writing approach for Number Station; guitars take a back seat to synthesisers and founding members Chris Andrews and Marcus Smith take a back seat to songwriting, with all five band members now at the helm.
The group's sophomore EP, Back Seat was written overlooking the sea on Southern Australia’s Great Ocean Road and the influence of the uninterrupted horizon shines through in the music; expansive, shimmering summertime tunes with soaring vocals that reach into your soul and raise you to your feet.
Mixed by acclaimed US producer/mixer Chris Coady (Future Islands, Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Back Seat explores the personal through universal themes of everyday life: a celebration of friends, an expression of unspoken gratitude for loved ones and a questioning of consumer culture are amongst the themes. Set against a soundtrack with all the groove of disco and 80s inspired synths, Number Station have honed their style and upped their funk with Back Seat.
