Show Me the Righteous Way

David Schafer was born in 1952 and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia. At age 10 his father constructed his first guitar from a cigar box that incorporated bamboo pegs for tuning. Since David had a passion for learning how to play the guitar he used his paper route money to buy his first real guitar at age 11. In junior high school and throughout the rest of his school years this self taught musician played in various bands where he learned more about music structure, what it takes to get along with others in a band and how to create original music. David played a bass guitar for most of his band years. David’s passion for music never changed, but after he got married and had two children he realized that providing for the family meant a change in direction. David was hired for a sales position for a chemical company and spent 37 years in sales, sales management, marketing and directing sales operations. He retired from corporate life in June of 2010 to pursue his music passion full time. He says that “the only time it’s too late is when you’re dead!”

It was in the middle 1980’s when David decided to make a commitment to writing songs. This meant that no matter what, when a unique idea came for a new song, he would jot down that thought and try to make something of it. David picked up the old trusty six string guitar and began learning how to perform as a soloist. He quickly found out how difficult it was to perform only original tunes, on stage alone, while trying to win over the audience. He stuck to it and has learned to be comfortable with performing his songs. He says that “that comes with a lot of practice and audience responses that have helped to build my confidence”. David has performed at various venues over the years in the states of Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. This included: churches, festivals, coffee houses, corporate functions, weddings, funerals, radio, and television.

Currently, David is launching his second and third CD for distribution: Non-Prescription Heart Medicine & Big Old Lug. The CD's are now available for sale on this website. The song “Back Porch Talkin” was created for the Back Porch Talkin’ web site and rural magazine. He has recorded this song with music accompaniment by nationally renowned mountain dulcimer player Stephen Seifert.
