Notes

Thank you for your interest in David Harris' new album release, "Simple Man". Our offering of David’s CD is our first effort at recording, marketing and distributing his original songs. Our hope is that the words and music will speak to you wherever you are in life and touch you in a way that blesses you. We believe the Country Americana Christian genre is unique and offers an easy listening, tap your toe, sing-a-long experience.
David and Sharron, along with their German Shepherd, Mattie, and cat, Smokie, live in the mountains of Northern New Mexico near the Village of Eagle Nest. David worked six years during his summer breaks from teaching college building their house and now they make their home there year ‘round even though during the winter months snow mobiles are their only transportation home.
David’s love of music comes from a long line of Harris’ who like to pick and grin. Music was the centerpiece of all the family gatherings at Granny and Grandpa Harris’ farm house near Gruver, Texas. At an early age his mother began to teach him to play the piano and he took up playing the guitar as a pre-schooler with lessons from his dad. He has continued to play the piano but playing the guitar and songwriting are his passion.
David began writing songs in his teens and has continued throughout his life. His song lyrics are inspired by all his life experiences. He has served as a worship leader in various churches since he was nineteen years old. His formal education includes a master’s degree in Speech Communication and he taught college classes for about twenty years. Three sons and two grandchildren contribute significantly to his material. He continues to write and probably will as long as he is breathing.
David's little blurbs about each song:
1. Take A Little Time (3:43) •An always timely message to myself and many people I know – slow down; 2. Finish Empty (3:50) •A number of years ago, I heard preacher Mike Curry teach about God’s blessings in our lives. As God pours out His blessings on us, we should be a conduit through which His blessings are passed on to others so that at the end of our lives we “finish empty”; 3. High Country Woman (4:09) •Sharron and I live in the mountains of Northern New Mexico between Eagle Nest and Angel Fire at 9200 ft. elevation. This song is a bit of a spoof about our life here in this beautiful part of the country; 4. Simple Man (3:06) •A simple life style, simple values, and an appreciation of the simple pleasures that find us every day is the life that has always appealed to me; 5. The Great I Am (3:09) •I love the story of Moses and his encounters with the Sovereign God. In this song, I’m trying to describe how I believe this story relates to our world today; 6. I Know A Man (4:15) •This song is a tribute to my dad, who in my eyes, is the greatest man I have ever known. We recently celebrated his 80th birthday; 7. No Other Way (3:42) •Even though it is a continuous challenge, I believe the best way to live life is by following the principles and teachings of the Master, Jesus Christ. John 14:6; 8. You Get To Me (4:57) •I like to believe that I am my own man –independent, self-sufficient, strong, and free. But the fact is, I need my wife, Sharron, more than anything and my life would be quite empty without her because she really “gets to me”; 9. God Blesses Us (3:47) •I never cease to be amazed how God blesses me in spite of myself and not because I deserve it; 10. Never Saw It Comin’ (3:21) •You can try to prepare yourself for this life all you want, but looking back over the years of my life, I can honestly say that for the most part, “I never saw it coming”; 11. Be Still (4:22) •Sharron’s favorite scripture is Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God; 12. The Passage Of Time (5:22) •I have no comprehension of the massiveness of this universe or how I even remotely fit into it. So I determined to simply put my trust in God through the “passage of time”; 13. Make Me Smile (2:37) •Even to this day, when Sharron and I are in a room full of people, often times, I am only aware of her; 14. Swimming In Grace (4:24) •Richard Safford is our pastor at the United Church of Angel Fire. Not long ago, he and I were talking about God’s grace and he made the statement, “I like to think we are all swimming in grace”. I thought the phrase should be in a song so here it is. I am dedicating it to our niece, Megan, a young woman who has so much to offer this world.
‘Simple Man’ is David's first effort at recording his music and offering it for public consumption. All of the music and lyrics are his original work and the fourteen songs on the CD are a mix of Country, Americana and Christian.
We hope you find hours of enjoyment listening to David’s music. If you do, please tell your friends. Thanks again.
