Description

An acoustic/electric ensemble that emphasizes vocal harmony. Made up of 5 songwriters, they blend their individual styles, ranging from alt-country, psychedelia, soul, roots, rock and classic pop to form sometimes upbeat, sometimes somber ditties and jams

Notes

The Newbees from Covington, KY, formed in May 2004, when husband and wife duo, Jeff & Misty Perholtz, met Tim Seiwert and Chris Damele. The four developed an immediate connection through their love of vocal harmony, upbeat melodies and rootsy grooves. In Fall 2005, the group added rising piano powerhouse Sharon Udoh to the mix.

The Newbees made their debut performance on May 21st, 2004 at York Street Cafe in Newport, Kentucky. Since then, the Newbees have been playing regularly at regional venues and festivals including The Motor City Music Conference, The Midwest Entertainment Industry Conference, Taste of Cincinnati, Gliers Goetta Fest, Mainstrasse Oktoberfest and the Midpoint Music Festival. They have performed on radio stations throughout the country, including local favorites WNKU 89.7, WAIF 88.3 and the Mojo 94.9. They have also been featured in various e-zines, magazines and newspapers including CityBeat and CinWeekly.

The Newbees released their nationally recognized debut CD "Songs from a Dilapidated Apartment" in October 2004, followed by a successful radio tour, adding The Newbees to playlists throughout the United States.

The Newbees recently released their long-awaited second album "Famous" in December 2006.

The Newbees' influences include: Ben Folds, The Jayhawks, The Beach Boys, Phish, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Ben Harper, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Neil Young.

Jeff Perholtz
has been perfoming, producing and recording music for over 15 years. Previous bands include TV Yellow (a.k.a. Kid Charlemagne from Athens, OH), Dr. Johnson & Thick Liquid. He also has been a member of For Algernon and a backup musician for Tristen Shields. In 2002, Jeff was recognized as one of the top 20 artists in greater Cincinnati with his self produced solo album "Spirit Rise". "Spirit Rise" is available at www.cdbaby.com.

Misty Perholtz
has been singing and performing since childhood, but didn't discover songwriting until receiving a guitar in college. She has been active in local and regional music ever since, and has also been a member of For Algernon and The Shirts.

Chris Damele
has been playing and writing music for nearly 10 years. Before joining the Newbees on bass, he performed in Laid Law Union and the Strolling Minstrels. Chris is also the keyboardist in the Minni-Thins.

Tim Seiwert
has been drumming since he could reach the kick-pedal and has recently been encouraged to lend his vocals and pen to The Newbees. Tim also drums for For Algernon, Bright Orange Robots and local theatrical performances.

Sharon Udoh
joined the Newbees in Fall 2005. Her welcomed addition has allowed the group to further expand their improvisation, vocal arrangements and songwriting. Sharon is also the keyboardist/vocalist for Beau Alquizola, The Shirts, For Algernon and many more.

These five singer-songwriters make up a band where clever lyrics, rich harmonies, catchy melodies and a sense of humor attract an eclectic audience of all ages.
