Description
They are an acoustic/electric rock band with an emphasis on vocal harmonies and a retro feel.
Notes
The Newbees from Cincinnati, Ohio:
formed in May 2004. Jeff & Misty, who had been performing locally as an acoustic duo, decided to form a complete band in the spring of 2004. They met Tim and Chris within a few weeks of each other through www.cincymusic.com and the four developed an immediate connection through their love of vocal harmony, upbeat melodies and retro influence. In the Fall 2005, the group added Sharon to the mix.
The Newbees made their debut performance on May 21st, 2004 at York Street Cafe in Newport, Kentucky. Since then, the Newbees have been playing regularly at numerous venues and festivals including The Motor City Music Conference, The Midwest Entertainment Industry Conference, Taste of Cincinnati 2005, and the Midpoint Music Festival 2004 & 2005. They have made appearnces on radio stations throughout the country including local favorites WNKU 89.7, WAIF 88.3 and the Mojo 94.9. They have also been featured in various e-zines, magazines and newspapers including CityBeat and CinWeekly.
The Newbees released their nationally recognized debut CD "Songs from a Dilapidated Apartment" in October 2004. A Successful radio tour was recently completed and "Songs from a Dilapidated Apartment" can be heard on stations throughout the United States.
The Newbees' main influences include: Ben Folds, Phish, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Grateful Dead, et al.
Jeff Perholtz:
has been perfoming, producing and recording music for over 15 years. Previous bands include TV Yellow (a.k.a. Kid Charlemagne from Athens, OH), Dr. Johnson & Thick Liquid. He is also a frequent member of For Algernon and a backup musician for singer/songwriter Tristen Shields. In 2002 Jeff was recognized as one of the top 20 artists in Cincinnati with his self produced solo album "Spirit Rise". "Spirit Rise" is also available at www.cdbaby.com.
Misty Perholtz:
describes herself as, "Another gal singer/songwriter/guitarist. My tunes speak of wasted youth, old friends, family strife, and funny observations. I hear I'm vocally edgy and a little loud, but simple songs with decent hooks are what I'm about. If you like raw emotion and humor with your tea, check us out." Misty is also a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/songwriter for The Shirts.
Chris Damele:
has been playing and writing music since 1997 and has performed in such bands as the Laid Law Union and the Strolling Minstrels, before becoming a Newbee. Chris is also the keyboard player for the Minni-Thins.
Tim Seiwert:
has been drumming for several years and has recently been encouraged to lend his vocals to the mix. Tim is also the drummer for Jason Wells' For Algernon.
Sharon Udoh:
joined the Newbees in the Fall of 2005. Her welcomed addition has allowed the group to further expand their improvisation during live shows. Sharon is also the keyboard player/vocalist for Beau Alquizola, The Shirts and Tarvis.
Highway Bound Records & Tri-State Productions:
Jeff & Misty continue to work as full time recording engineers, operating a full time record company, recording studio and mastering facility. They produce over 250 CDs & DVDs annually for professional groups, orchestras, choirs, schools, and artists such as Jason Wells, Dave Davies, Dan Raines, Jennifer McNutt, Beau Alquizola, ChaseLounge and Wake. They have also co-produced jingles for the Cincinnati Reds, and other Cincy busisness.
