Notes
This is the first LP recording by the legendary founder of the "Hahavishnu Orchestra". Originally released on vinyl in 1980, "Burgers From Heaven" enlisted musician friends such as Bluesman Jimmy Thackery and members of great bands such as "The Dixie Dregs", "The Nighthawks" as well as name session players like Harvey Brooks (Dylan, Miles Davis, The Electric Flag)and backup musicians for Leon Russell and future backup player for Kenny Wayne Sheppard. This recording is enhanced with videos from two TV appearances from the 80's (which can be seen on your computer)and involves an orchestra of talent and names which showcase sixteen songs that includes three bonus cuts not previously released on the vinyl LP.
One of the bonus cuts, "Heart Throb" was written about and for the great wrestler, "Austin Idol" in which he also makes his vocal debut on the recording as well. Austin lends his body in the photograph on the rear of the CD with the head of VP Hubert Humphrey giving Darryl his diploma which was part of the "Don't Be A Fool..Stay In School" campaign.
When the LP was originally released in 1980, one side was promptly showcased on the nationally syndicated "Dr. Demento Show".
This recording is a classic and showcases the early songwriting of Darryl Rhoades with a variety of music styles that have been associated with him over the years. Songs about necrophilia, leprosy, shark attacks, the zen crowd and the quest for normality are just a few of the themes that run through this popular recording. If you are new to this artist resume, you really should have this recording for your collection to have a better understanding of why he has been revered by true musicians since 1975.
