Notes

Twelve years of international ministry, touring, and seven albums later, Debbie Fortnum has immerged from a 2-year sabbatical proclaiming the faithfulness of God with her 7th CD, called reCOLLECTION! It is comprised of 14 of her best songs throughout the past 12 years, some of which never gained awareness here in Canada, but reached #1 on Europe’s Inspirational Radio Charts. "Seven" is the number of completion, and thus this compilation CD has become an intentional offering of gratitude to God for His blessing on this leg of her ministry thus far. reCOLLECTION also represents the clear path that Debbie Fortnum has blazed into the Canadian Christian Music Industry. It is laced with hope, comfort and joy! She is a singer, songwriter, pianist, worship leader and speaker who has shared space on other Canadian Compilation CDs (including two “Sea to Sea” Discs), or alongside other Award-winning Canadian Artists such as Brian Doerksen, Steve Bell and Lianna Klassen.

The cover of reCOLLECTION is a hummingbird that Debbie painted during her healing sabbatical. High up in the Andes Mountains of South America, the hummingbird has become a symbol of resurrection! The birds are motionless during the cold nights, but with the warmth of the sunrise, they seem to “come back to life again”! After a two year sabbatical, it seemed only appropriate for her to rise from her slumber in the warmth of His Sonrise with a scepter (reCOLLECTION) in her hand, declaring “God is alive, and so am I!”

Filled with the worshipful, beauty-soaked ethereal ballads and soul-stirring anthems that have characterized her CD’s and ministry, reCOLLECTION doesn’t disappoint as it is filled with the best of them -- all in one place! While Debbie is the Executive Producer of reCOLLECTION, the Producers represented here are British Columbia’s CGMA Covenant Award Nominated Chris Janz, and Nashville’s Dove Award-winning Dick & Melodie Tunney, of the Grammy Nominated Group, “First Call”.

Fortnum sat down at her father’s church piano at the tender age of five, and suddenly knew how to play it! Her miraculously received gift became the means by which she herself has experienced emotional and physical healing from the storms of life, a childhood illness, arthritis, and celiac disease. Fortnum’s gifts catapulted her into ministry by the age of 12, and she became the full-time church pianist at age 13.

As she has followed her God-given path, her CDs have not stopped selling. Though not counted by SoundScan, she is one of Canada’s best selling Indie Artists, with over 20,000 CDs sold, not including digital downloads. Fortnum has received a total of seven Canadian and USA Music Awards and has been nominated for over 17, including the 2008 Canadian GMA Award Nomination for FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR.

Debbie is married to Scott Fortnum and together they have three artistic and musical teenagers, Moriah, Shanna and Noah whom they adore! They love laughing and cooking together. Her and her family's humanitarian efforts have been recognized by local newspapers and Food for the Hungry Canada. Motivated by her life’s mantra “Blessed To Be A Blessing”, she helped facilitate the sponsorship of hundreds of Ugandan children by adopting the entire village. As a result, less than 10 years later, one of the world’s most impoverished, AIDS-stricken places had been transformed into a model community which has become a beacon of hope to the rest of Africa! She continues to promote FH Canada via their www.PovertyRevolution.com campaign.
