Notes

Doo Bee Doo Bop /dü:bē:dü:bäp/ noun 1. A moment filled with tingling anticipation. 2. The brief pause before the meeting of two powerful forces. 3. The flash of realization that a momentous event is about to occur. 4. The point at which a buildup of energy is about to burst forth.

What is Doo Bee Doo Bop?

It’s a flicker of force, a feeling of anticipation, a split-second of knowing just before powerful energies collide. It’s that tingling sensation you get when you know something amazing is about to happen.

And it’s that feeling that grabs hold as the first notes of Alexander Boynton Jr.’s new album Doo Bee Doo Bop meet your senses. You know there’s no escaping the groove that starts to take hold of your body as the sounds causes you to sway. From the first melody, you intuitively know that these are tunes you’ve got to groove to.

Alexander Boynton Jr.’s Doo Bee Doo Bop Creates Intimate Connections

Boynton Jr.’s jazz is so smooth and luxurious, it mingles comfortably with your own inner rhythms. If music is a healer then Doo Bee Doo Bop is your doctor making house calls. It will relax you, make you feel more at ease with the world as you clink glasses before a saccharine sunset or settle back for an intimate evening by a cozy fireplace.
With recognizable melodies rooted in R&B, Boynton Jr.’s smooth jazz is familiar and comfortable, like a silky nightgown you slip into with a sigh. It’s a friend there to comfort you and lift your spirits, and you’ll soon find yourself whistling the melodies as you practice your favorite dance moves.

This album celebrates relationships and explores the way humans relate to one another through recognizable stories. “Beyond the Gate” musically recounts the moment King Kong captures his girl; with its thundering bass and staccato piano and horns, each instrument becomes a prehistoric character in this animal tale of love and surrender. “Kate,” written as an ode to strong single mothers, and as thanks to Boynton Jr.’s own, alongside “Soul Sister” and “Real Live Woman,” reveal the powerful women behind the man, while the title song, “Doo Bee Doo Bop,” captures the essence of the irrepressible force that forges a connection between body and soul. And this is where you’ll feel an irrepressible desire to groove with Boynton Jr.’s compositions.

All-star Team Makes Beautiful Music

Boynton Jr.’s project was recorded at both JHL Sound in Pacific Palisades, California, and Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, BC. The mostly instrumental album features collaborations with California-based super-producer Jeff Lorber, who brought in the likes of Paul Jackson Junior, Tony Maiden (Rufus), Rick Braun, Phil Perry, Jeff Golub, Michael Thompson, Tony Moore and Lenny Castro.

With Boynton Jr. as composer, bandleader, bassist and co-producer, Doo Bee Doo Bop is truly a reflection of his unique and poetic approach to celebrating the connections that make our senses feel good.
