Description
Born out of Splitsville's famous EP 'Pet Soul' given out at the Poptopia Festival, 'The Complete Pet Soul' is an obvious homage to Brian and John & Paul. Features the single 'Forever', as well as a cover of 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again'
Notes
Splitsville's four-song "Pet Soul" EP was distributed as a "promo-only" CD for the Poptopia '97 Festival in Los Angeles. A departure from the band's more contemporary brand of high-energy pop-rock, Pet Soul was an orchestral pop love letter to just a few of their musical heroes. Showcasing the group's vocal and multi-instrumental abilities, the EP was an instant hit with devotees of sixties-influenced pop music. Splitsville decided to revisit the experiment in 2000, largely in response to the incessant pleading of fans.
According to All Music, "...the (original) orchestral tracks are nicely balanced with several new songs that recall the low-voltage, almost folk-rock sound that predominated on the original U.S. edition of Rubber Soul."
-4 and 1/2 Stars Rating
And Shona Winfrey of Fufkin.com states that CPS is, "...money well spent for any fan of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Byrds and and just generally for fans from the large backlog of influence we have to draw from during the early to mid '60s. It sounds good, it's fun, and no self-respecting power pop fan would want to pass it by."
Piled on with lush harmonies, densely-layered instrumentation and AM radio references galore, The Complete Pet Soul is a glimpse into Splitsville's considerable creative talents and a sumptuous feast for the ears of pure pop lovers everywhere.
This CD also contains Splitsville's version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David classic "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". This track was featured in the Kirsten Dunst film "Get Over It".
