Notes
When I first saw the photograph that graces the cover of this CD on www.mattperko.com I said to myself, "That's going to be my CD cover". I had known Matt for several years and had the pleasure of performing with him on many occasions. What I did not know was that his creativity and talent with a camera were just as superb as his drumming skills. It only made sense for me to ask the photographer whose photo I was going to use for my CD, to perform on the CD - and that he has done.
Kip Reed and I go back longer than either of us care to admit. He was one of my first connections to jazz and remains one of my most cherished. Oh yeah, he can play a helluva a bass too.
Marty Greenberg is a relative newcomer to my musical world - but we connect on a level as though we've known each other for years. Marty's keen musical sense fits well with my playing. In fact, Kip, Marty and Matt all think musically very similarly to the way I do. We don't have to communicate verbally about what we are going to do - we just play and interact and let the music come alive.
In recording the songs for this CD, We had a loose framework of what we wanted to do, and then let the music determine its own course.
Come along for the ride and join us on this musical journey. Who knows, you just might find yourself - Going My Way.
