Notes
The Grautet's debut album infuses the rhythm and groove of hip hop, soul, R&B and rock into an instrumental setting. While the lineup and music is based in jazz, the bandleader and composer, Andrew Grau, has made an effort to bridge the gap between jazz and more modern and popular styles. The tracks each are their own little vignettes, each meant to add some sort of background to something as mundane as being frustrated with the MTA with what seems like daily 'Mechanical Problems,' or the extreme turmoil felt at his previous relationship while vacationing in Japan during the 'Sakura' festival. Each piece is meant to be accessible enough that the listener can enjoy and take away something unique, and personal. Let's not forget to groove!
