Description

Songs of emotions without the commitment

Notes

The Firegod never set out to change the world.  Yet, tune by tune, chord by chord, for three albums now The Firegod has evolved from a simple man with a guitar and a head full of melodies into a cult legend.  Jimi Hendrix.  Kurt Cobain.  Ask an outsider to the Seattle music scene who the region's greatest musician is and these names often come up.  However, ask an insider, someone privy to the full breadth of all the great music to come out of the Pacific Northwest and a surprisingly different answer comes out:  The Firegod.  Anyone who has witnessed one of The Firegods sets live, or has listened to his music through headphones on a quiet, rainy day looking across the Sound can attest to this.   Somehow, words alone cannot accurately describe The Firegod's music.  His exquisite melodies, his delicate arrangements, his virtuoso instrumentation transcend all attempts at description through mere words.  His music must be experienced, must be felt to be truly understood.
And now we come to Let's Ride, The Firegod's fourth studio work.  When The Firegod's debut Now That She is Gone instantly vaulted him into status as an indie favorite, critics were ready for a sophomore slump.  When The Firegod's next album Fever eclipsed his debut, some claimed he had hit his peak.  And when The Firegod's third album So It's Come to This continued the musical ascent, many started to wonder...where is his ceiling?  Let's Ride pushes the boundaries even further.  It is more heartfelt, more emotional, more soulful, more everything than anything he has ever done.  And yet, it never loses the simplicity that is a man and his guitar.  It never loses the gritty DIY aesthetic that is The Firegod's hallmark.  There is no gloss or fake sheen over these revealing melodies.  It is simply an audiophilic treat.
The Firegod is not a rock diva.  His sets are small, his mentality undeniably indie.  You may never see him sign to a major record label or play a Superbowl halftime show.  Just know that somewhere in Seattle, in a darkened room behind closed doors, someone is making the greatest music ever.
And that is something everyone can believe in.
