Description

The bilingual Gotham Roots Orchestra are NYC music veteranos who use American roots musics, bad-ass guitars, and ready-to-stomp beats as a
reference point for their chingón NOW sound. Plus...a Steely Dan cover.

Notes

The bilingual Americana/blues GOTHAM ROOTS ORCHESTRA (GRO) are New York City music veteranos who use American roots musics, bad-ass guitars, and ready-to-stomp beats as a reference point for their chingón sound. Featuring anti-stupid songs about regular folks, dogs, comadres, veterans, black coffee, villains, capitalists, heroes, La Migra, repo men, SEX of course, and the NOW Americano life. Plus a roadhouse cover version of STEELY DAN's Black Friday....Where else?

The first review:

“Goodman Hero,” a John Lennon-inspired blues rock tune has all the gusto of the arena rock anthems that brought the house down when rock-n-roll was rock-n-roll. “Mississippi Bound” boasts a rollicking road trip song sure to get people up and dancing. The early-era ZZ Top gritty guitar blues pumps and pops in all the right places." -Brooklyncountry.com

DARK STONE (AY DE MI)
{C. Amigo/M. J. Garcés)
Nono/Nona Music. (BMI) © 2012

When I sink like a | stone
And nobody remembers me
When the splash and the waves
Are the last things I've made
There at the bottom
A dark stone in the mud
Let the blood and shame and the blame wash away
Let that stone be me

Ay de mi
Vengo de tierra descalzo
Ay de mi
Vengo de rodilla desnudo
Me arodillo. desecho
Ay de mi el acusado
Ay de mi el condenado
Ay de mi el desdichado
Ay de mi el rechazado

I was cut to the bone
Blood and sinew all around
As I lay there dying
I didn't make a sound
I lay there broken
I couldn't pretend
that It was a brave man
who bled out in the sand

GOODMAN HERO
(C. Amigo)

I have felt like a prisoner
All of my life
Fire flows inside my veins
Dark thoughts cloud my mind
Some days I can’t rise from bed
My body’s a burden
My thoughts, my logic are blocked
My brains’ let me down
…but I know

One day I’ll be a good man
One day I’ll be a hero

I’ll conquer over evil
Be shelter from the storm
I’ll change the kitty litter
Keep the world from harm

I was threatened with a gun
By a future policeman
Omar Lorenzo said
That he would kill me at recess

The crowd was calling for blood
there in the hall
A Cuban girl named Dolores
pulled me from harm

(spoken)
then she looked Omar Lorenzo straight in the eye
and she said:

One day you’ll be a good man
One day you’ll be a hero

You’ll conquer over evil
Choose right over wrong
Rush into a building
Save a child from harm

MISSISSIPPI BOUND
(C. Amigo)
Nono/Nona Music. (BMI) © 2012

Mississippi bound
Mississippi yearning
Mississippi bound
Mississippi burning
Mississippi bound
Mississippi churning
Mississippi bound

One M, Two M, three M, Four
Who’s that buried underneath the porch?

Delta Queen
River steam
Burning dreams

One M, Two M, Three M, Four
Clarksdale daughters waving from the shore
Five M, Six M, seven, eight
Ain’t no Yankee getting/coming through them gates

Mississippi bound

Mississippi yearning
Mississippi burning
Mississippi churning
Vicksburg Station
Choctaw nation
Slave plantations
Jubilation

One M, two M, three M, four
Five M, six M, seven, more
Eight M, nine, ten, eleven
The trail of tears don’t lead to
heaven
