Description
This is a collection of some of our favorite and most oft played celtic instrumentals featuring Patrick D'Arcy from Dublin on the uilleann pipes. Many of the tracks were recorded live in order to capture the rousing energy of these fun tunes.
Notes
In ancient days in Ireland and Scotland, friends and family would gather in thatched roof homes with flagstone
floors and play music, sing, dance and tell stories through the night. This home was often called a Ceili house. Friends would congregate by the fireplace or in the kitchen and would spend time supporting each other.
This tradition helped the town people to forget about the sometimes harsh life conditions and to celebrate life.
“Celtic Sessions” captures the warmth and gaiety of that tradition as The Celts perform some of their favorite Irish and Scottish Trad tunes and recorded them intentionally raw in order to capture the authentic earthy nature of the tunes and instruments.
The Celts (formerly known as “The Blair Band”) have been performing around the world for 17 years. The Celts are a combination of Scottish born and Irish-American musicians currently based in Nashville. The band performs a combination of fiery Scottish/Irish traditional instrumental tunes and vocal songs as well as their own hybrid style of Celtic pop rock original songs with earthy, organic Celtic instrumentation.
You may have seen The Celts PBS Pledge show called Christmas with The Celts which aired on over 222 PBS TV stations across the U.S. and Ireland. The show is also set to air the next 2 years on PBS during the month of December. The Celts have performed in front of as many as 80,000 fans and perform mostly in Performing Art Centers, Theatres, and Arenas these days. The Celts have recorded 8 records and have been featured on tons of Celtic music compilations through the years. The Celts also host an annual show at the Pollstar #1 venue in the country, the world famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Some of the special guests who have performed with The Celts include:
Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh Altan
Eric Rigler Braveheart, The Titanic
Cathy Jordan Dervish
Ivan Goff Riverdance, Lord of the Dance
J’Anna Jacoby Rod Stewart
Tim O’Brien Mark Knopfler, Dixie Chicks
