Description

Vintage honky-tonk country with a modern NYC edge.

Note

The Boot Heel Drag can be many things to many people. It’s a Bob Wills tune, a dance, or, in this case, a rollicking honky-tonk band, mixing a delicious bunch of country standards with high bred originals, digging deep into the great divide that encompasses Americana, carrying some of our oldest influences and creating some of the newest.

They’ll make you want to dance and sing, two-stepping your way across the floor, with a stinging Telecaster and sweet pedal steel giving rise to stunning vocals.

It all adds up to a music that can be extraterrestrial at times, with a down below the dirt maelstrom of irony, love, and an aching humanity. It can be timeless like Hank, swing like Lefty, has some of Porter and Dolly’s tempestuous love, yet still veer to the contemporary romance and sounds of outlaws of the road, of diesels, darkness and glory. The sound lights its elemental grooves with down home virtuosity, the sure hands of artistry coupled with pure emotion.

The Boot Heel Drag came together in Crown Heights, Brooklyn in 2012 as the long-dreamt-of creation of singer and multi-instrumentalist Abby Hollander – a girl from a bluegrass picking family in Woodstock, NY who cut her band teeth in Austin, TX. In The Boot Heel Drag, she set out to explore the roots of American music, moving the bluegrass sounds so familiar to her into another dimension.
