Notes
The Ocean is the second part in the Alchemy and Immortality saga. In this chapter we reunite with with alchemist in his twilight years. He sits on the shore tempted by the knowledge that the time machine he built with the power of the Devil is out in the ocean. He must swim out to it to see his love again. He knows his frail body may not withstand the journey to the machine but is a risk he is willing to take. Even at the inevitable result of universal cataclysm.
Intimate and revealing this chapter is a lot more organic musically than the harsh and cold textures used in the previous chapter, The Devil. The Ocean is inspired by exactly that. Flowing and undulating rhythms and melodies that explore the ocean as a spirit or a mind set. More reminiscent of Meltons early work it maintains the classical integrity of eternity. Luke has actually said that this is personally his favourite movement in the trilogy although the third is his most ambitious.
