Description

An engaging repertoire of indie-electro-folk songs that explore the demise of industrial civilisation with defiant positivity.

Notes

‘Apocaloptimystic’ is the debut EP by Melbourne/Christchurch duo, The Crash Narrative. The five songs of this indie-electro-folk release create rich soundscapes of carefully crafted beats, orchestral instrumentation, and layers of melodic vocals – with lyrics of substance that demand and deserve attention. Addressing the demise of industrial civilisation with defiant positivity but without false hope, The Crash Narrative offer listeners an engaging and diverse sonic repertoire that uses music to explore our ecological predicament.

The EP opens with ‘Horizon’, an electronic pop anthem that will uplift and inspire, followed by ‘Possible Worlds’, an apocalyptic-folk song that explores how nature can ease the spiritual burdens of living in tumultuous times. The central track is ‘Affluenza’, a reggae-influenced alt-folk song that celebrates the simple life. The EP then lifts with ‘Sleepwalk’, a highly-charged indie-rock song that tries to shake awake a culture that is sleepwalking over the edge, before closing with ’10,000 Years’, an atmospheric track that reflects on the demise of our civilisation from the deep future.

The two members of The Crash Narrative have been playing music together for over a decade, and have patched this EP together across the Tasman with recording sessions in Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington. The duo draw on the experienced musical journey of The Andy Gibson Project and base many of their lyrics on the work of the Simplicity Institute, including Samuel Alexander’s utopian novel, “Entropia: Life Beyond Industrial Civilisation”.
