WASHED AWAY
1. I’m Coming Home - Written in Boston, February 2012.
2. Walking In The Devil’s Shoes - Inspired by a newspaper article about a well known pop star’s experiences with substance abuse. Simon McDowell played his heart out on drums. Mac and Michael Fogarty add great guitar and organ touches.
3. The Only One - Morena “You are the only one for me!”
4. What Will You Do? - Based on an original musical idea from my time in Rochdale, Lancashire circa 1976. An acoustic run through of the chords with Coleman Bayliss provided an atmospheric backing track. Michael Fogarty later added a funky Wurlitzer part.
5. Washed Away - Written in June 2012 after my wife and I spent a week in Minamisanriku Cho, Japan doing volunteer work with O.G.A for Aid. The tsunami which immediately followed the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake of March 11th, 2011 completely washed the town away and took the lives of many people. “Who will tell the stories of the past and who will keep culture alive?”
6. Buckskin Coated Girl - Loosely based on an early relationship in Belfast, Northern Ireland circa 1968. “I wonder where my buckskin coated girl is now?”
7. Fargo Town - Toronto, January 2012, written after a very cold Sunday afternoon walk around the poorer part of the city.
8. Embrace The Blues - Written in Tokyo, over a period of seven years, observing relationships develop, fade and finish.
9. I Still Need You - Thanks to Mike Marrington for his inventive, atmospheric percussion work. Written in Tokyo, September 2006 reflecting on a relationship from my Rochdale, days. “Those ghosts won’t go away no matter where I roam.” Dedicated to Victoria Ireson.
10. Please Be True - Written in Shimoda, Japan during vacation just before the first recording sessions occurred.
