Description

World music infused with Asian colors of jazz, deep blues, and pastels of cool tones, together with respect for science, mathematics and engineering with undercurrents of lyrical fiction and, without a doubt, a special Christmas album of Joy in Baby Jesus.

Notes

Art Elle Quartet

Arturo Gonzalo Elle: Drums, percussion, Classic 808 kit, djembe, table, flute, tenor sax, alto sax, shakahuchi, programming

Elle is from a Brazilian-German immigrant family, born in Salvador Bahia, Brazil. Elle’s grandfather was from Germany and married a Brazilian woman with roots to African slaves. Elle was educated at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, studying to be a lawyer, and began playing professionally during his university years often in the commercial business district entertaining lunch crowds and business people staying at the hotels at Ipanema. He now teaches music at the Catholic schools in Rio and holds musical workshops for the youth at Rocinha, one of the largest favellas in Rio. He is excited that his home country is getting ready to host the World Cup 2016. His students are forming samba bands and large marching jazz bands for the many upcoming festivities. He wishes everyone a joyous Christmas!

Karl Jostein Mostad: Bass guitars, Bass, cello, viola, violin, programming

Karl was born in Kristiansund and haunted the clubs at Bergen, Trondheim and Oslo, in that order, making his way to the capital city. He finally managed to finish his university education and doctoral research at Trondheim and moved to Oslo to pursue his music career after several years at the national oil company Statoil as a geophysicist. Because of his unique and sought-after expertise, Karl still does the occasional consulting gig for major oil & gas companies around the world, that is, when he is not performing or composing his own music. Karl is happy to spend Christmas with his family, not touring nor doing his geophysics consulting gigs during Christmas.

Kevin Anna Brosky: Classical, acoustic and electric guitars, cittern, mandolin, banjo, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, oboe, baritone sax, programming

Kevin (née Anna) Brosky knew who he was several years after she was born. She was the granddaughter of hard working Polish Jewish immigrants from Poland who settled in Manchester, U.K. After years of pursuing studies in political science at the University of Manchester, she finally began pursuing a music career full time. And she also changed physically and adopted a new first name Kevin, but retaining Anna as his middle name being proud of who he was and the name his parents gave her at birth. His parents welcomed the professional pursuit of his passion by attending his first club gig in Soho, London several years ago and attended more gigs since. Kevin is also now teaching music part time in Manchester to at-risk youth. Kevin is happy to be with his parents during Christmas.

Wen-Ho Lin: Piano and electric pianos, organs, keyboards, harp, programming

Wen-Ho’s large extended family had opportunities to move to Taiwan during the civil war years culminating in the move of the Nationalist government to Taiwan in 1949. Wen-Ho’s grandfather went to Taiwan but left behind much of his family including Wen-Ho’s parents until the late 1980’s when they were reunited. Wen-Ho was born in Shanghai and educated at the elite National Taiwan Normal University. He was studying Chinese history but fell in love with music, his minor study at university. He especially loved American blues and jazz. He began playing gigs around the city. In the mid-2000’s he emigrated to the United States with his wife and baby and now teaches music in public schools and perform in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the Pacific Northwest. He recently started a new venture with his family, a small restaurant specializing in xiao lang bao, those delectable fresh pork dumplings with tasty hot soup inside the dumpling. He only wishes that he could set up the band there to perform, but thought better of the ambience. Wen Ho loves to roast a nice turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Jacqueline Lee: Executive Producer
Arthur Lee: Producer, bass guitars, keyboards, alto sax, programming

The Lees are music producers who are very happy to be working with four fine musicians from around the world. Much of the album’s tracks has relevance to science, mathematics and engineering, He dedicates this album too to his Olivia, forever daughter. Olivia is featured on Neutron Star playing the Glockenspiel.
