Description

This album is full of cute instrumental music with a lot of humour and drama for all ages: longing, fulfilled love, the quest to find the missing cow, battling the witch, and to round it all up some tongue in cheek Rock 'n' Roll.

Notes

Adrian Hollay composes music for theatre and film in Germany, New Zealand and Australia. This album is a compilation of three of his soundtracks and consists of music written for a short animated film and two theatre productions by the Auckland Theatre Company. "Badjelly the Witch" is a children's play based on the book by Spike Milligan. "Anne Boleyn" is a play on the life of Anne Boleyn by English author Howard Brenton.

The first four tracks are music for the short film "Apart", which was composed as part of a competition. The tracks provide the thematic glue that brings together the music for the two theatre plays on this album. "Apart" is about a couple in love who are physically separated. They each live on an island and try to find a way across to be united with the other.

Disconnection is also part of the story of "Badjelly the Witch". Two children go on a quest to find their cow which was abducted by the evil witch Badjelly. In order to rescue their beloved animal they have to sneak into the witch's lair on top of the mountain.

Anne Boleyn's story is very much a story of growing disconnection between her and her husband Henry VIII. At the base of their story as also the big rift between the catholic and protestant faiths.
The Auckland Theatre Company's production of the play set the story in the 1950s and put a modern twist on it, it's the time of Rock 'n' Roll.

All music is composed, performed and produced by Adrian Hollay.
