I Wonder

This is what Richard Weize from Bear Family Records says on the liner notes for our new album:

"A few years ago someone completely unknown to me sent me a CD of his music.
I was amazed by what I heard.
This was pure Roy Orbison.
Not somebody copying Orbison; this sound came naturally. I was reminded of Jimmy Ellis who sang Elvis-style songs under the name of Orion and who was not a copyist either but had a natural style.
The group that amazed me was called Truly Lover Trio. The singer and leader of the group is Marcel Riesco.
Now Marcel has sent me his new recordings, made 'live' at Lightning Recorders in Berlin.
These new recordings feature a song written by Marcel called 'I Wonder.' It is absolutely fantastic. Actually most of the songs are Marcel's songs.
Like me, Marcel always enjoyed the songs of Joe Melson, Orbison’s songwriting partner prior to Bill Dees. Here Marcel sings 'Oh Yeah' plus 'Shook Up' and 'Long Time No Love,' songs written by Orbison and Melson.
Just listen to this LP. It is really fascinating.

Marcel is not new on the scene. He has been performing for about 15 years with his band, Truly Lover Trio with acclaimed success. His voice has been compared to the one of a young Roy Orbison for years now. Due to this eerie similarity to Roy's early voice, he has performed at several Roy Orbison tribute shows and his resume includes performances at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Tribute Week to Roy Orbison, sharing the bill with The Crickets (Buddy Holly’s band), Raul Malo (The Mavericks), Glen Campbell, Billy Burnette (Rockabilly legend Johnny Burnette’s nephew) and more; the Arizona State University’s Roy Orbison Celebration in which Roy’s wife Barbara was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Roy; and the 20th Annual Roy Orbison Festival in Wink, Texas, sharing the bill with Roy’s oldest son, Wesley. Marcel has also performed "In Dreams - The Roy Orbison Story" in Australia, to sold-out crowds, and appeared at major Rock and Roll and Rockabilly festivals around the world.


Marcel has internalized Roy’s music amazingly well, but he is not a tribute artist by any means, he is a die-hard fan of The Big O. He is also a prolific songwriter and his original compositions sport a very unique sound, which he keeps perfecting. He has released several albums with his own bands, but has just recently kicked off a solo career performing at some of the biggest (and smallest) international Rock and Roll and Rockabilly festivals (Viva Las Vegas, Hemsby, Screamin' Festival, Bear Family Anniversary Party...).

He has his debut solo LP available now on one of Europe's leading rockin' labels, Sleazy Records. Fantastic sound and superb original material make this a surefire hit platter, that together with some hot cover tunes will make this a favorite album. There are some amazing shows lined up this year and next, with a great backing band, this is guaranteed excitement!!

If we had to describe the new sound: late 1950s teen hit parade. Teen Beat, listen how they laugh and love, cry and try, swing and sway in Teen Town, USA. And of course, the unmistakeable touch of Roy Orbison.
