Description
A fusion of Mayan tribal beats and symphonic electronic music.
Notes
This project has been a labor of love for several months now. Last year, the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium, in Buffalo, NY, began to brainstorm a new program that would tastefully debunk the doomsday madness surrounding the Mayan calendar and December 21, 2012. The soundtrack had to evoke many different emotions from despair to hope, terror to relief as well as "traditional" Mayan music. I asked myself - what could their music have sounded like thousands of years ago? I then saw a documentary where an archeologist had found a painted mural on the wall of a Mayan temple that depicted an orchestra - several players with long horns, a variety of flutes and endless drums. This was the inspiration which led to the score for the planetarium production "2012: Prophecy of Doom?" It is an interpretation of the past with a decidedly modern electronic twist.
