Description

A patriotic portrait of the American Soldier, rendered in a contemporary folk style.
Produced and Recorded by Grammy-Winner Bill Pere

Notes

We originally wrote "The American Soldier" as a poem to pay homage to all American soldiers. Our feelings of gratitude toward our soldiers are very strong. We feel that we owe them so much; and in many ways, they are the forgotten ones. They are the reason that we can live in a country that is free! Several people, after hearing the poem, suggested that we put it to music. We were fortunate enough to contact Bill Pere who is President of the Connecticut Songwriters Association with over 30 years of experience in the music business. Bill is the voice and guitar on the recording. Bill's wife, Kay, a talented arranger, did all of the arrangement and most of the music performance and production.

We are residents of Yonkers for 39 years. We met in college and have been married for over 40 years. We've worked together part time while raising our children and full time for the last 15 years. We are enjoying life's adventures and exploring new endeavors together. One of these endeavors that we particularly enjoy is writing. We've written a children's book entitled, "On That First Christmas Eve," which was awarded second place in the children’s category for 2006 by the Catholic Press, and several other poems that we hope to have put to music in the future. "The American Soldier" is our first step into the music arena. --- Carol and Bob Dowgiallo
