Description
The band's comeback EP following their relocation into one of the worlds largest music cities; Los Angeles, California. Produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Shane Gould of The Animal In Me at Monsterbox Studios.
Notes
Since late 2010, Here Lies the Hero has become a single cohesive force driven towards their aspirations. It was at that time that they acquired bassist and vocalist James Tuppen. His experience in previous touring bands helped Aaron Chaney and Jaxon Moore bring their band from a local status in a small, Texan, oilfield town to a region-wide-known band. The three of them became the core of Here Lies the Hero and came up with goals and ideals that eventually led them to the recording of their previous EP, Carpathia, which sparked the interests of management, endorsers, and promoters alike. These partnerships led the band to a new region in the United States where they knew they could thrive with musicians they desired to create the music that was intended for Here Lies the Hero all along.
In the summer of 2013 Tuppen, Chaney, and Moore made the move to Los Angeles, California. "I felt that all this band had achieved whilst living in Midland, Texas was something monumental," says Tuppen. "We were always proud of the creative chemistry and songs we have as a band, but the fact that it spread the way it did, and the way we were received by every new crowd we played to, made it feel like we could thrive in any region we resided in... Maybe we take it further? Maybe the whole U.S.? Maybe even the world? What the best part is, is that we have this certain preverbal kinetic energy; in song writing we write together, and whatever happens in the structure happens. Conversely, the way we handle the band's other affairs is completely planned and, for lack of a better word, democratic," says Tuppen. The very "planned" mentality Tuppen speaks of was what gave Here Lies the Hero their successes in their string of goals they set for themselves upon their arrival in Los Angeles.
From day one it was all work and struggle for the band as it was a different world from what they were used to. Tuppen recalls, "The first thing Chaney and I did was call every practice studio, or lockout, we could find. Once we did that we set up shop and began auditions for the second guitarist we would need, as well as, our drummer."
After a few months of shows, songwriting, and adjustments the band went into the studio with producer/vocalist, Shane Gould of the band The Animal in Me. It was with Shane at Monster Box Studios in Livermore, California that Here Lies the Hero recorded their latest EP entitled, Adrift, which was released May 20, 2014. "With Adrift, we were finally able to realize the songs that we had written in a way that was completely satisfactory. I have never been so happy with the way our music has turned out! Put that together with the fact that these are, in my opinion, some of the best songs we've ever written. These songs are very emotional for us because every single note and lyric came straight from the hearts of the members of this band. We make ourselves vulnerable and let our emotions spill into these songs so that the fans can really get to know us as people through the art that we produce. That is what makes our music Here Lies the Hero, and that is what carries the pulse throughout Adrift," says Moore.
Here Lies the Hero have since begun playing shows all over in cities such as: Anaheim, Fullerton, Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and San Diego. They have released their debut music video for their first single off of their latest EP entitled, "Ghosts," with friend and director, Adam Paul Stone. "We've done a lot as a band in the year that we have been here," says Tuppen. "It's funny how easy it is to freak out in the moment and stress about how long something may be taking in our career, or how tough it is to get through something. However, we remember that we have four other guys there doing it with us, and it's at that moment that we look back at all we've accomplished and realize that we've been aspiring to kick ass all this time, and then see that we have been doing just that . . . there's no reason to not keep going."
