Description

A host of songs ranging from cool jazz to experimental rock, Amplitude Japan tinges with psychedelic overtones while still holding its own as a solid follow up to 'Blues Radio'.

I really enjoyed making this record. What I aim to do first is find the most sensible way to blend songs that borrow from a relatively broad spectrum of influences. The rest just seems to fall into place as the sessions move along.

What I love most though is when great things happen by accident. Like when I recorded the song Amplitude Japan, I originally had in mind to use an electric guitar for the rhythm track. But upon hearing how effective the nylon strung acoustic guitar sounded on the preliminary tracks, I decided to stick with that. I thought it turned out fine in the end. I was very pleased. Eastern sounding, but with a Western edge. But that's only from my point of view.

It was also great working with Karl (Grossman) again. He's quite honestly one of the most extraordinary musicians I've ever come across. It was with much delight and gratitude to have him co-produce this album with me. I thought the rhythm beds heard throughout came out as smooth as they did due in large part to his solid engineering techniques and talent of instrumentation.
