Dr. Kenneth M. Dean, Jr. A.G.O. is Minister of Music at the City Temple Baptist church in Baltimore, Maryland. He also serves as Artistic Director of the Baltimore Academy for the Performing Arts, which is under the auspices of the New All Saints Catholic Church. He also teaches choral music in the New All Saints Parish School.
Dr. Dean has taught music in the Baltimore City Public Schools and headed music departments in such churches as Wayland Baptist, Bethany Baptist (Brooklyn, NY) and City Temple of Baltimore Baptist Church and the Lochearn Presbyterian Church. A partial list of credits include:
• Organist for annual Martin Luther King Ecumenical Worship- St. Patricks’ Cathedral in New York City
• Guest Conductor/Organist – reformed Churches of the Netherlands (1982) Dedicational Organist – St. Andrews (Church of Scotland) Rome, Italy (1990)
• Director of Music for the National Congress of Black Roman Catholics which convened in Baltimore at the Baltimore Convention Center and the National Shrine, Washington, D.C.
• Appointed Director of The Urban Mass Choir for Archdiocese of Baltimore
• Conferred the Doctorate of Music (honoris CAUSA) from the Family Bible Institute College and Seminary in Sacred Music
• Director for the 2002 production of the Wizard of Oz presented by the performing arts department of the Community College of Baltimore.
In 1993, he completed a very successful recording project through BenMykel Productions entitled, “Organ Evensong,” which was recorded on the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Dean traveled to the Vatican, in Rome Italy to attend a music symposium for Parish Music Directors, at St. Peters, in January 1998.
On April2, 2000 Dr. Dean appeared as principal organist in a joint venture with the New Orleans Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and mass choruses consisting of members of the Symphony chorus of New Orleans, San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Baltimore Opera Chorus and Baltimore Symphony Chorus in the presentation of “The Power of the Classics” which feature “Elijah” by Mendelssohn and (3) other works by Bach and Gounod for orchestra and organ. This concert was presented at the Historical Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans, LA. This performance received rave reviews.
