Description

Featuring three distinct lead vocalists, this album is a melting pot of influences combining a hint of modern country with the influence of Merle Haggard, young Tom Petty or Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and Linda Ronstadt.

Notes

Drobac and Shaw’s sound has evolved over the last several years and Funhouse, the band’s second album, showcases this evolution.

Influenced by a variety of artists and decades of different styles of music, Funhouse demonstrates a sound that is somehow both familiar and new, yet inherently Drobac and Shaw. The 10 songs on the album are a melting pot of influences with a hint of modern country with the influence of Merle Haggard, the flavor of young Tom Petty and Neil Young, with a touch of Fleetwood Mac and Linda Ronstadt. The band may be influenced musically by many legends, but somehow the songs have a fresh approach without a distinct era stamp.

Like their first album, Funhouse features three distinct vocalists – Dan Drobac, Kimber Maiers Shaw and John Shaw III. Individually they take turns with lead vocals, while collectively bonding with layers of harmonies and tracks of piano, guitar, drums, bass, steel and even sax that highlight the progression of John Shaw’s songwriting and production skills.

Dan Drobac kicks off the album with “Girl In The Crowd,” the most modern-country sounding track of the 10-song collection. The Kentucky Headhunter’s lead singer Doug Phelps co-produced the track with John Shaw III, while Nashville studio ace Gary Morse added guitar and slide to the track.

Phelps also joined in on harmony with Kimber on “True Confession,” the only track co-written by Dan, Kimber and John. Phelps also added his vocal prowess to the chick-anthem drinking song, “Knocked Me Off The Wagon.” Jimmy Hall, Southern Rock legend and front man for Wet Willie, also played his swinging sax to the one party song on the album.

“Special Place” features Waylon Jennings’ legendary drummer and producer Richie Albright, giving it the recognizable “Waylon” groove that Albright made famous years ago.

The whole album pulls from a range of emotions and life experiences that most will relate to or recognize – from love to heartache and everything in between. As the title track goes, “Her love is like a Ferris wheel spinning round and round.” Spin or download this new album. Drobac and Shaw guarantees a memorable ride that’s fun. It may even prove to be a musical getaway you will enjoy revisiting from time to time.
