About "Esperance"
Taken from the name of the breathtakingly beautiful Western Australian town where the artist lived and worked as a counsellor assisting troubled youth.
The french name broadly translated means "place of hope with great expectation" and originates from the name of one of the sailing ships that sheltered in the turquoise waters of the bay before settlement.
This debut album is a reflection of that hope-the places ,people and friendships that form the memories that we treasure.
Essentially, this is what my recording is-emotions and experiences that I want to share with people-and that our lives would be richer for taking the time to listen and think (something that we need to do in an increasingly busy world).
The feedback from listeners has been wonderful, with many people commenting on how this music has touched their lives, including those who have wanted something that would encourage them in their recovery from illnesses such as cancer.
The musical styles featured in "Esperance" are varied' but could be perhaps best described as "theme or soundtrack" (in fact most of the songs featured on this album have been selected as backing for an Australian documentary containing underwater footage).
You won't find any heavy rock beats, loops or midi remixes here.
Every instrument was recorded with the philosphy that sometimes "less is more" and music needs to be "real".
If you enjoy Vangelis,Tony O'Connor,Yanni or Steve Deal, then "Esperance"has something special for you,the listener.
From the deeply personal track "The Secret Place"(my favourite) to the majestic "Anthem For The Creator" and the whimsical "Dance Of The Leafy Seadragons",this album interprets a unique part of the WA coastline and is sure to become a special album in your collection.
Pictures of the actual locations the music was composed for are included as part of the album cover to add to the listener's experience-enjoy! (The cd is professionally manufactured and printed and is of broadcast quality).
Mark currently resides in Perth Western Australia where he continues to work helping people and pursuing his musical career.
He is a member of his local church worship team which plays for over 1800 people each week.
Everything you hear on this album was performed, recorded and mixed by Mark and has featured on both local and national radio stations.
It is his heartfelt desire that as you listen to this project you too ,will feel refreshed and encouraged with "hope and great expectation".
Mark is currently working on a second recording so keep in touch!
Part proceeds of this album go to charity.
