The debut EP of original songwriting by NYC-based artist Exenia, 5 Sides, presents five songs and five sides of a musical spirit. With a bluesy sweetness in her voice, she pulls you in to a world of original and clever songwriting, rich with analogies and wordplay. A sense of rhythm from her background as a dancer sets a groove-centric vibe on each track. Influenced heavily by a year of listening to soul artists such as D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Prince, Little Dragon, and others, this debut EP was written in NYC and recorded in Brooklyn, while she finished music school studies at the City College of NY. Producer and arranger Jessie Fischer, of the acclaimed fusion group SoulCycle, brought her ideas to life by blending a mix of genres and sounds together, to create an impressive and promising introduction to a young, new artist. She takes you on a journey through her different influences and moods - travel from the singer/songwriter acoustic tone of Loose Change, a tune of attachment and love, to the Hip Hop and Jazz touches on In Your Eyes, a hint at flirtation and seduction. Float next onto a cloud, swaying to the soft and lazy triple time of See Stars, with lyrics of sweet memories and reminiscing, to the jam-band vibe and social consciousness of One People. Finally, enter a more electronic world of sensuality on Flashing Lights, as she recounts an altered state of being inspired by love, sex, and connection. These five different songs and subjects come together to create a cohesive first EP, sure to make listeners move and think. it's a fresh taste of new music, and it goes down smooth and easy.
