Description
"Like Cheap Trick, Foo Fighters and raw psych in a blender" is the way Johnny Angel describes this band. Socially relevant lyrics over grinding guitars and huge backbeats; melodic hooks laced into driving songs.
Notes
“What does Spot Mary mean?” is a question often asked of the band’s singer/songwriter Joey Ammo. Short answer? Looking for Mary (whether that is in all the right places or all the wrong places…)
Spot Mary is the new alternative rock band created by Ammo, formerly of Birdbrain (TVT Records), a post-punk-pop band most well-known for their song “Youth of America”, featured in the Wes Craven horror blockbuster “Scream.” After two full albums on TVT Birdbrain disbanded, and Ammo took some time off from the intense pace of the music industry to recover.
Eventually, having written a bevy of new songs, Ammo found a musical soul mate in bassist Alan Ferix, another veteran of the Boston music scene. They decided to throw their collective hats back into the ring and came up with the concept for Spot Mary. Drafting power players Mike Davy on guitar and Steve DiGloria on drums, they found a rehearsal hovel and were off.
Instantly securing weekend gigs due to Ammo’s prior reputation, Spot Mary has grown in leaps and bounds. Their first CD, “Full of Grace”, a 5-song EP, is now in full release.
“…Like Cheap Trick, Foo Fighters and raw psych in a blender…” is how Boston legend Johnny Angel Wendell describes Spot Mary’s sound.
Spot Mary loves the stage as well. Whether it’s Ammo jumping and gyrating, or DiGloria juggling sticks or standing on his drum throne, they are full of energy and passion for their music.
Ammo’s dark lyrics are still in tow, as in the single “Love Me”: “Hate – Greed – these are all I need; Pain – Lies – silence in your eyes…” Well –known for illuminating the deeper feelings of a solitary life experience, Ammo’s words juxtapose sharply with the meaty hooks and roaring guitars of his music.
