Walk With The Change

This CD from songwriter/performing artist Edward Dee, entitled "The Sound of Pretend", is an inviting musical journey through choices, challenges, and relationship with life and love. In this CD - Dee's third release - he brings forth compelling melody lines, persuasive rhythm, and a distinctive vocal style that is clear and inviting. This project showcases to Ed's audience some of his earliest music never before recorded - now brought to life with a fresh palette reflecting the day. In addition, there are new compositions featuring Ed's guitar work coupled with the many masterful musicians who shared in bringing this art to you.

About the Songs...

1. The Sound of Pretend
The title song asks... How true to yourself are you being? Can you hear this question? Are you willing to hear the answer? This may be an auditory look in the mirror…

2. Lost Another Loved One Blues
A melancholy, empathizing song about losing someone so dear. I wrote this song upon hearing of the death of someone I loved very much. A wonderful woman who will be remembered by me all of my life…

3. Walk With The Change
Walking in a soft rain, the thought occurred to me about my perception of comfort…of being comfortable or not. Then... a realization that I really am the choice-maker of my perceptions. This song is about willingness to be a choice-maker.

4. All Alone With Me
A Rockin’, Rippin’ blues shuffle with an outstanding guitar duet that sets the stage for a song about a guy trying to build up his confidence and get the girl. Featuring blues guitar great, Garth Webber. This was a lot of fun!

5. You Won’t Let Go
I wanted to write about the people I see who are stuck emotionally. But underneath or behind the emotions…they are spiritually stuck. I believe we all experience this in our lives and sometimes the loving thing to do is to kindly and respectfully say something. Never be too afraid to receive some help.

6. I Know How
Hey! A country song! This tune is about being self-righteous with a love relationship. It’s all wrapped in victim, hurt and retribution. Everything a good country song needs! I wrote this in the early days of my songwriting and decided to finally record it. A beautiful marimba solo gives it a flavor easy to digest.

7. Just A Man
Here is a song about some of the stages of my life to this point in time…reflecting and accepting being a man. Ownership of being. Great horn section on this tune helps drive the rhythm, making this an easy groove to get into.

8. Oblivion
Written a long, long time ago (when I was 16 or so). This dark poem set to music is really about love, fear, addiction and the desire for a relationship with God. The sexual innuendo, the plea for salvation, and the confusion of being young and addicted all come to life through the haunting minor key enhanced by an acoustic performance of guitar and drum.

9. Ride Again
This song originally had the title, "Spookie"... because it has a spooky, eerie feel to it.
A funky jazz feel sets the stage for this tune about being ready to take a chance on love again. When you are caught off guard and bitten by romance, this is where your thoughts can go. Great groove! The central guitar lick that opens this song was inspired by the infectious hook in the theme from Perry Mason!

10. The Sound of Pretend (Instrumental)
The instrumental version of the title and theme of this album. Sets a mood that is thoughtful, dissonant, and questioning.


Recorded at Red Rooster Studios in Berkeley, CA and mastered at Capitol Records Hollywood, this project is a production of superb quality.
