In his first solo album, Mike Gallagher combines the styles of funk, rock, soul and jazz into an astounding blend of new music.
Notes
Mike Gallagher began his music career on the South side of Chicago. At the age of five, he began to toy with the drums and piano. His father, who was a performing drummer in Chicago, taught him many of the fundamentals of rhythm. Throughout his high school years, Mike performed with some of Chicago's most legendary blues and R&B performers at clubs such as The Checkerboard Lounge, Buddy Guys and B.L.U.E.S. After years of collaborating and performing with many artists and bands in many diverse styles of music, Mike was ready to assemble a group of his own.
While studying jazz at DePaul University Mike he began writing and conceptualizing a vision of what his style would consist of. Some of the major influences include artists such as Stevie Wonder, Dave Mathews Band, Prince, Steely Dan, Weather Report and Earth Wind and Fire. Some other jazz influences include Herbie Hancock, Kenny Garrett and John Scofield. Many of these influences can be heard in the songs of Mike Gallagher. When the time came for putting together an album, Mike and fellow musician Louis Kholodovsky approached engineer Tom Miller about a recording project. Mike and Louis had been performing together in the Chicago based band The Grüv and decided that with the few songs they had written between the two of them they could begin their own recording project. The result of this was their nine-song debut C.D. Endless Motion.
Some of the artists and groups Mike Gallagher has shared the stage with include Zzaje', Brian McKnight, Roy Ayers, The Roots, Malik Useff, James Young (Styx), Liquid Soul, The Mighty Blue Kings, Umphrey's McGee, Anne Harris, Bumpus and Treologic. In playing with and alongside these many great artists, Mike Gallagher has had much experience in entertaining audiences around the nation. When you hear the Mike Gallagher Group perform, you'll find yourself singing along or getting down to the funky sounds. Every time the Mike Gallagher Group performs, they keep the audience dancing all night long...-
Mike Gallagher was selected as a finalist in the 2003 Shure microphone songwriting competition with his song "Endless Motion". Please check out more @ http//:www.mikegallaghergroup.com
