Description

Contemporary Jazz quintet and trio selections

Notes

Tropical Jazz for the soul, Volume 2 not only presents 8 more original Chris Glik compositions interpreted by some of today's top musicians, but also offers 3 wonderful standards as performed by Glik in the classic piano bass drums jazz trio format.

As always, Glik combines Jazz, Latin and Brazilian rythms with beautiful soulful melodies in his original compositions. "Manila Bay", a Samba, was inspired by Manila Bay in the Philippines while on tour with the Platters several years back and anyone who has taken the bus in Los Angeles can relate to "RTD Blues". "Dark Star" is a beautiful tune co-written by Glik's wife, Deborah and "Then What" is based on an Igor Stravinsky theme from "The Rites Of Spring".

Because the rest of the Glik originals are more straight-ahead jazz tunes, Glik included 3 standards, also in the straight-ahead style: "What Is This Thing Called Love?", "Stella By Starlight" and "Autumn Leaves" performed by his Jazz Trio. We know you will love these interpretations of these tunes.

The musicians - Chris met Mike Flick, the bassist, while on tour in Brazil. Some of the tunes feature Mike soloing. Kenny Park, drums, gives life to each song with his wonderful sense of time and space. Dave Victorino is heard on flute and tenor saxophones creating wonderful improvisations. Finally, Lenny Coltun is heard on guitar, adding depth and color to the compositions.

Chris Glik is a Composer/Pianist/Arranger residing in Southern California. Glik's first cd, Tropical Jazz For The Soul, has been re-issued on cdbaby and features the Chris Glik Band performing his own Brazilian/Latin inspired Jazz compositions. This, his 3rd release, presents Chris Glik on the Piano, performing 8 more of his original compositions with a larger ensemble along with three of his favorite standards as his jazz trio.

As with Glik's previous releases, the music on this cd will help you relax and make you feel good no matter how challenging your day.
