Notes
GOBHI is an indie rock band originally from upstate New York, but whose members have never really spent too much time together in one place. This reality is at the very center of the inspiration and creative processes that lead to TWENTY TURNS, the first full length from this band that is epected to be released sometime in 2014.
Although gobhi has been playing together in some form since 1999, it isn't until now that the group has come together to create an album that will formally document their existence. Twenty Turns will feature songs created over long distances with members separated in three states, yet cohesive in sound and purpose.
The separation in itself can be heard in tracks like In Reverse and Superhighway, the former a self depreciating depiction where the repeated line "it takes a long time to get it right" could be as much about a failed relationship as it can be about the band's struggle over the years to do just that. Other tracks like You Always Get What You Want, Ultrastatic, and Vamp offer up straight rock riffs, and hooky choruses that will definitely please the majority of air guitarists. The band might be talking directly to the listener on the former, but more likely continuing their dalliance with relationship fodder. Other notable tracks include Waiting in the Wings, Brave New Things, and Anytime, No Wait. These three songs give the listener a sense of where the band may be heading.
The tracks were recroded over a few sessions as the band got together in Upstate, New York to lay down the foundations. Then the process of adding finishing guitar work and vocals happened over a year or two, with Zach in Portland, and the rest of the band back east. The tracks were sent over to Jeff Oehler at Beehive Productions in Saranac, NY for some editing and mix work. Pete Donnelly of The Figgs (As well as solo work and tons of other collaborations) is working to produce the final mixes and other final touches on this project.
GOBHI is Zach Gustafson, William Buckenroth, Matt Bombard, and Scott Smith.
