Notes
Waterflow by Greg Slawson
The Waterflow collection features music fused with three different manifestations of water: as gentle waves washing ashore, raindrops falling in a summer thunderstorm, and a flowing waterfall in a clear stream. May they bring peace and healing to your day.
Accomplished musician and nature enthusiast, Greg Slawson, travels to uplifting natural areas throughout North America to inspire his creativity and to record the sounds of the outdoors. Resonant water sounds provide the backdrop for these three original compositions. These musical journeys fluidly synthesize natural and spiritual elements. They can become an integral part of your meditation practice.
All three extended length pieces are perfect for periods of relaxation, meditation, a therapeutic massage or a yoga routine.
1. Lakeshore (29:56)
Kelley’s Island, in Lake Erie, is an island of coastal woodlands and serene shores. In this recording, you experience the sound of waves caressing the island’s north shore. The resonating vibrations of sustained tones, in combination with the shorebreak, create a transcendent environment for 30 minutes of meditation or deep relaxation.
2. Summer Rain (17:24)
This summer rainstorm evokes a calm aura. As the rain fades into the distance, a steady swirl of resonant layers transport your mind and body into a deeper state. After the music dissolves, the finale features the simplicity of rain and thunder.
3. Sulphur Spring Falls (22:08)
The gentle bubbling of Sulphur Spring Falls provides the background for this peaceful soundscape. A delicate volley of subtle musical textures is woven into the continuous waterfall background. Immerse yourself for a period of reflection with this soothing journey. This selection also helps you fall asleep effortlessly.
Greg Slawson Biography
Born into a family of accomplished professional musicians, Greg Slawson’s world of music features compositions that are inspired by nature. Traveling all over North America to uplifting natural areas, his music forms while hiking, mountain biking, or sitting in beautiful places. While visiting these sites, he records sounds of the outdoors which enhance his music and stimulate ideas. Greg’s latest collection of music is entitled, “Waterflow.” The three pieces from this collection are an integral part of his daily meditation practice. These selections fluidly synthesize natural and spiritual elements.
Greg also captures video and takes photographs of the places he visits. In his videos, he combines original music with images of breathtaking natural scenery to create a multisensory spiritual experience. Greg and his wife, also a musician, formed the website, GC Creative Studio. The site is dedicated to helping others discover creative living while displaying the couple’s many different artistic projects. He continues to look to nature for inspiration and to deepen his own spiritual practice in order to expand his creative palette.
The composer’s diverse background covers more than meditation and ambient electronica. Other genres include chamber music, piano pieces, jazz and many works for the group he co-founded, Kassaba. Kassaba combined elements of classical, jazz and world beat. The quartet performed in France, Canada and throughout the eastern United States. Their CD, “Dark Eye” has been heard on 125 radio stations in North America and internationally.
A pianist and graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Greg received a Master of Music in piano performance. Some awards include being a finalist in ASCAP’s Morton Gould Young Composers Competition and being a prizewinner in the IBLA Grand Prize - European International Composers Competition.
Commissions include “Archipelago,” a concerto for piano and jazz orchestra, which he premiered with the Dayton Jazz Orchestra. “Prelude e Danza” was written for Anita Pontremoli and Arnold Steinhardt, the first violinist of the Guarneri Quartet. Its world premiere took place in Cleveland, Ohio.
