Notes
5 songs EP from amazing Montreal band Half Baked. This one is all out, full of guitar solos and catchy hooks.
The follow-up of the weird fake live album "Chaosmos" (2011) sets the mark of a new era for Half Baked.
Everyone knew they were one unpredictable prog-punk crew, but now they roam into brand new territory.
After the completion of the Phantom Trilogy, it wasn't clear were the band would strike next.
"Half Baked vs the Ghost Underground" brought comparisons to Quebec classics such as Bran Van 3000 and We Are Wolves.
"Half Baked sings the Century Of Foam" puzzled fans with a commercial sound. The bass driven, Death From Above 1979 inspired album was all out.
"Half Baked's Chaosmos" burned bridges with his high ambitions. Concept album and live recording at the same time, it featured inspiration by Liars, Les Georges Leningrad and David Lynch. The trilogy was complete. Where could Half Baked strike next?
Half Baked reappeared 5 months later with a 5 songs EP titled "La prochaine fois, le feu."
The title comes from a James Baldwin novel, The Fire Next Time.
The music is mostly prog-punk. But it features layers of guitar solos that redefines the genre and puts Half Baked back where they belong: in the innovation realm.
Lyrics are mostly franco and frankly, the band has never sounded as good as now.
"La prochaine fois, le feu" is a bold statement from a band that has defined Quebec's underground music scene for a decade.
When you hear it you know what the thing is about.
Good music for bold people.
