Description

Italian folk music realized through pop and rock mediums.

Notes

Gianfranco Benedetti, an appreciated swing singer and Simona Allegro, a young rock singer and promising voice, the first time together in this new album "PROFONDI COME IL MARE" (Deep as The Sea). It is a collection of songs written by Sebastiano Rizzo. Sebatiano Rizzo, born in Italy is a M.D., songwriter and musician. He visited the U.S.A. several times. But, back to the album. Have you never looked at your Love's eyes? They are deep as the sea. The album opens with "Lasciando Harbin-Leaving Harbin", written by Sebastiano Rizzo during his journey in China. The Chinese sound is still present just to jump to Italian melodies (Storia d'Amore-Love Story), blues (Nelle Tue Mani-In Your Hands, Forse Tu Non Sai- Perhaps You Don't Know), swing (Formato Tabloid-Tabloid Format), slow rock (Quel Treno Per Shanghai-That Train To Shanghai, Viene Subito Sera-It's Evening) and the italian version of the american country style "Lower Manhattan", written as a tribute to the September 11, 2001 NYFD firefighters, a number of them had Italian origin. The English version of this song was awarded by ASCAP for 2001-2002. And last but not least: Il Rosso (The Red-haired boy)an autobiographic guest song by the singer-songwriter Roberto Durkovic, a Sebastiano Rizzo's friend, who is growing up in the music scenario with his own personal style.
-------------
Why a song on Lower Manhattan? To remember. To me and to anybody else, a black day of my -of our -time. Because I have been in Lower Manhattan the first time I went to America. Because there I walked, nose upward, and admired the Twin Towers, infinitely high, giants running toward the blue sky of New York. And also I perceived the cold wind from the East on my face. Yes, Manhattan. The gate
of the immigrants. The oldest condensate of the modern mankind; heterogeneous in race and origins, but merged all together. Don't ask why a song on Lower Manhattan may be written down. There isn't a reasonable answer.Songs are sounds, air moving in the air. Who knows where is it coming fromand going to? Who is listening to "Lower Manhattan" the first time, may feel confused. Perhaps a mistake recording the song or a thrilling provocation by the author. Maybe. But I have just translated in sounds
images we all sow by the media."Lower Manhattan" isn't a love song but a memory song. The few seconds of the introduction briefly recall the tragedy of Tuesday 11 September 2001. The aircraft terribly drawing nearer and nearer. The unbelievable silence. "O sole mio", to remember that most of the firefighters had ltalian origin. The bagpipes of the rites officiated in the next days. Then, to realize that there were powder and smoke instead of the Towers and skyscrapers, but also molecules of heroes. And the wind from the East coming to clean Lower Manhattan and make it to spring up again, more nice than before.
Sebastiano Rizzo, September 11, 2001

LOWER MANHATTAN

(Parole e Musica di
Sebastiano Rizzo)

Là dove una volta
C'erano due torri gemelle
e grattacieli che, giganti,
andavano verso il cielo blu.

Ora è solo fumo,
polvere e fumo da respirare
e il cielo blu sopra di noi
non più colore, non è più blu.

Ma in autunno verrà
il vento freddo dell'Est
e più bella sarai.
Lower Manhattan,
Lower Manhattan.

Noi sappiamo che
polvere e fumo intorno a noi
sono molecole di eroi
accorsi a salvare chi era là
quando il cuore di
Lower Manhattan si fermò
e tanti cuori insieme, poi,
volarono in alto e ancora più su.
Lower Manhattan,
Lower Manhattan.

LOWER MANHATTAN
(Words and Music by
Sebastiano Rizzo)

Once, where, there, there were
two high twin towers and sky scrapers
likewise giants running toward
toward a blue sky on our town.

Now it's only smoke
powder and smoke to breathe and trample
and the blue sky on our town
hasn't more colors, is not more blue.

But in the autumn will come
the coldest wind from the East
and more nice you'll become,
Lower Manhattan,
Lower Manhattan.

We know well that smoke
powder and smoke around us,
are also particles of heroes
come fast to save who were there laying.

When the Manhattan's heart
stopped to beat, fast crashing down
and all together hundreds of hearts
sudden flew up and even more up.
Lower Manhattan,
Lower Manhattan.
