Gritty, Spooky, Adaptable, Forthright Folk Rock framed upon hints of Jam Band, Balladeer Pop, and Americana strung together with unique vocals and accomplished guitar work recorded without overdub and with minimal effect, One man and his guitar.

Notes

Spencer Scholes writes songs hefted from the weight of experience, painted with hues of imagination, and tempered by the sting of sharp self examination. Softer sounds in his recordings conceal the foothills of volcanic stage energy. His musical output sets out from the perplexing muddle of the mundane to shift gears upon the hills of primitive poetry, before racing along the glaring ridges of intense awareness with a can opener and a glass of water. Whether drawn from the mystical or mundane, his current style is reasonably described as folk rock. On stage, he funnels all of his breath and focus into each song, seeming to draw fuel from the audience and some personal fire. The intensity balanced by revealing confessions and a wry sense of humor. Currently, Spencer is touring nationally in support of his debut solo album Dragonfly Season.
Performing with or without a band, his output spanning the back porches of energetic folk, while his electrified band shows rise to the pitch of inexplicable bells ringing over storm waves at sea. In his guitar playing he is known for maintaining rhythm while surfing in on lead runs simultaneously.
Spencer has made music from the time he was a wee bairn. Raised on classical music alongside the standard fare played on popular radio in the South, his musical education began at age four with piano lessons. He received professional experience and vocal instruction from age nine to fourteen performing in a choir that toured nationally and regionally every year. His first solo unaccompanied vocal performance was at age twelve in front of several thousand people on Christmas eve. His first solo performance of original material performed ala vocals and guitar was at age fourteen in front of four hundred high school students at a university conference for youth.
His interest and background are rooted in travel from a very early age, as his family traveled every year. Getting to visit the land and people all around the U.S. And a bit into Canada deeply affected the music he enjoys and writes. A working man from the start, his love for making and performing music has persevered through many unusual occupations. All the years of travel and labor echo in his songs like laughter against deep canyon walls. This and more is what you may hear when you hear him perform.
