Description

Music from the motion picture GENDERFREAK, featuring the artists Jordan Balagot, Rebecca Louisell, La Muff, Jordan B, Suspicious Package, and Dean Dichoso.

Notes

GENDERFREAK is a movie by Rebecca Louisell. The pop-punk soundtrack features various artists:

Jordan Balagot is a film composer based in Los Angeles. She also produces electronic dance music under the name JORDAN B. Balagot & Louisell cowrote the punk music and lyrics for the film together, and recorded the tracks with Dean Dichoso at Audio Virus X studios.

LaMuff, based in Los Angeles, writes and performs vocal-driven music that ranges from dry-witted rap to layered, electronic pop.
LaMuff's live shows border on performance art—complete with wigs, costume changes and prop-wielding backup singer/dancers—bringing out the visual and physical aspects of the music. She has also performed for years under the name "H.R. Muff'n Stuff" at the monthly Wig Out cabaret.
The artist behind LaMuff is Monica Howe, a studied vocalist, writer and designer. Her influences include old Hollywood musicals and crooners, 80s rap and new wave, and millenial bleeps and bloops. Her songs are produced by composer and sound designer Joshua Fielstra.
LaMuff released her single and video “Come on, Taste my Rainbow” in 2011, followed by the four-song EP Gold Lamé in March of 2012.

Becca Louisell loves making films with social meaning. A Studio Art major in undergrad, she then worked with youth as an outdoor education and political advocacy program director. In 2007, she produced and co-directed “Being Lisa”, a short transgender romance that won the Alliance for Community Media’s Hometown Video Award in the Gay and Lesbian Professional category. This experience led her back to school at the University of Southern California, where she is currently earning her M.F.A. in film production with a focus on directing. While at USC, she has been the recipient of the Troutner Award for cinematography and the Don Thompson Scholarship for Cinematic Arts for her work in LGBT media. This is the second time Becca has faked playing the violin for the camera. "Genderfreak" is her thesis film.

Dean Dichoso (Guitar / Bass / Drums) is a record producer with extreme attention to detail. He does about 3 LPs and 3 EPs a year, while staying busy as an extremely solid multi-instrumentalist studio musician. He plays many instruments in many genres/styles and doesn’t just dabble, either. He has been passionately involved in the creative and technical side to music for 20 years. Being a professional studio-drummer, guitarist, and bassplayer, he’s been known to have been an extremely musician-friendly producer to work with, usually having learned all the parts on all the instruments of a song very well, long before pre-production starts.

Suspicious Package is a music, video and performance collective, lead by front-women Emily Doubilet and Ashlynn Manning.
Their current project is to generate a fusion of art and environment called Bio-Pop: a celebration of biodiversity through pop entertainment. They are developing a series of original songs and high definition music videos, each focused on the unique behaviors of a specific animal. By using strategic internet distribution and featuring human-animal interactions in the context of both wilderness and urban environments, they aim to usher in a new voice in contemporary pop media that inspires people to connect with life on earth.

GENDERFREAK Plot Synopsis

It’s the first day of school and Rachel wants to ask popular guy Pete to the “backwards” dance where the girls ask the guys. Her lesbian best friends Amanda and Michelle tell her he’s a douche.
On their way to class, Rachel bumps into new kid Sammy and they get off on the wrong foot. Soon after Rachel and her friends learn that Sammy is genderqueer, meaning Sammy doesn’t identify as either he or she. Amanda befriends Sammy, who likes Rachel and wants to be in her band, but Rachel isn’t having it.
Once Rachel finally asks Pete out, she finds out her friends are right. Now she has to make amends with Sammy in time for the dance on Friday!
